Move over Barcelona & Real Madrid – La Liga’s most entertaining side this season is… Betis!

There has been plenty to talk about in La Liga this season. For different reasons, Barcelona, Atlético, Valencia and Real Madrid have all captivated audiences, but no team in Spain has caught the eye quite like Betis.

The Seville-based side won’t be holding a trophy at the end of the campaign, yet they have achieved something even more important this term. They have entertained us all.

Quique Setién’s men went down 5-3 at home to Real Madrid on Sunday night in yet another thrilling encounter at the Benito Villamarín. And it is nothing new.

Ask a fan of any other club when was the last time their team was involved in a 5-3 scoreline and they may scratch their heads. Most would have to go back years.

Not Betis. Sunday’s game was the third this season to have ended with that scoreline. The other two? A 5-3 loss at home to Cádiz in the Copa del Rey and their memorable 5-3 win away to fierce rivals Sevilla in the city’s derby clash.

There was also an incredible 4-4 draw away to Real Sociedad, a 4-0 win at home to Levante and a superb 1-0 victory away to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu. It is fair to say that there has never been a dull moment for the Andalusian club in 2017-18.

Conceding goals has been a problem and Betis have also lost 6-3 at home to Valencia this season, as well as 5-0 to Barcelona at the Benito Villamarín.

But their attacking play has been a joy to behold and even in defeat, their fans have sampled some fantastic football throughout this campaign.

They won’t win any silverware at the end of the season, but they have won the admiration of many. And if you haven’t been watching them, make sure you start. It’s great entertainment.
